Keeping up with the latest issues on water quality is now a cinch with the Illinois State Water Survey’s newest blog, “Focus on Illinois Water Quality,” authored by Walt Kelly, a groundwater geochemist at ISWS.
Writing about a range of topics from bottled water safety and viruses in deep groundwater to fluoride in drinking water, Kelly provides information and insight into the water quality issues that affect human and ecosystem health. The blog is designed to educate on topics in the news today while providing a forum for discussing ideas.
“I typically write on topics I know something about,” Kelly said. “I want the information I post to be factual; I don’t want to shoot from the hip.”
Some of his future blogs may be tied to his past and current research on nitrates from agriculture in surface water, antibiotics and personal care products in the environment, and wastewater used for crop irrigation.
Kelly began blogging in late 2010, and plans to add new essays two times per month. The blog is available at http://illinois.edu/blog/view/789/.
